We disabled Exchange Web Services (EWS) as part of Microsoft's recommended security best practices. EWS is an older Exchange protocol that many legacy applications use to access mailboxes. Unfortunately, it has also been a common target for attackers and is being phased out in favor of more modern and secure Microsoft 365 technologies.

The issue is related to how Apple Mail connects to Microsoft 365. As part of HUC's security improvements, we have disabled a legacy Microsoft connection method that Apple Mail relies on when adding Exchange accounts. As a result, Apple Mail is no longer able to connect to HUC email accounts, which is why you're seeing the "com.apple.accounts error 3" message.

Going forward, we recommend using either:
  • Microsoft Outlook for Mac (recommended) or IOS
  • Outlook on the Web
Both options are fully supported with our Microsoft 365 environment and provide access to email, calendar, contacts, and other Microsoft 365 services.

We understand this may be frustrating, especially since Apple Mail worked previously. Unfortunately, this is the result of security changes designed to better protect HUC accounts and data.

If you'd like help setting up Outlook on your Mac, we're happy to assist.
